Alloy Entertainment plans to adapt Sisterhood Everlasting, the final book in the The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. Written by Ann Brashares, the best-selling five book series features a group of four friends and the one pair of jeans they can all mysteriously wear. The first film adaption hit the big screen in 2005. The second film; which featured plot elements from books two, three and four; was released in 2008. While not blockbusters, each movie made about $40 Million at the box office.
The Sisterhood last reunited six years ago, so the planned third film may not seem timely to say the least. However, Sisterhood Everlasting is set ten years after the fourth book. It follows the four main characters; Lena, Tibby, Bridget and Carmen; as they approach thirty.
As of right now, none of the film series’ four stars; Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera and Amber Tamblyn; are attached to the new movie. They appear to be up for another round with the magical blue jeans though. In 2013, the four actresses reunited for an “Entertainment Weekly” Reunions Issue. At the time America Ferrera said, “The fifth book [Sisterhood Everlasting] picks up 10 years after the fourth book, so the characters are all basically the ages that we are now. I know that the four of us would love [to make another film], and it would be wonderful.” Also, using an “individual familiar with the sequel” as a source, The Wrap reported, “…[They] have expressed interest in reprising their roles and are in various stages of discussions to return.”
“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3” will be directed by Ken Kwapis, who also directed the first film. Liz Garcia (“Dawson’s Creek”) will serve as scriptwriter. A distributor has not yet been secured.
