Review: Game of Thrones 4:03 – “Breaker of Chains”

Y’all, I am so angry.

Like, look: Jaime Lannister isn’t what I’d call a good person. Like everyone else in the show he has his moments of goodness and his moments of badness, but overall I don’t think he’s a great person.

But if there’s one thing Jaime Lannister is not, it’s a rapist. This is the man who got sick when he heard what had been done to Elia Martell and her children. He protected Brienne from being raped.

So why would he then rape Cersei right beside their dead son’s body?

I’ve long since wondered if the writers know how to write consistent characterization. This tells me that, no, they don’t. In the book, Cersei doesn’t refuse Jaime and Jaime doesn’t force her. Why would they change that?

And can we please have a scene of Oberyn outside that god damn brothel room? I feel like the battle between him and the Mountain is going to take place there because they apparently can’t imagine anywhere else for a non-white man to be.

I know this show is capable of more. There have been scenes that have ripped my heart out with how well done they were. But then they do things like this and I just want to throw my hands up in the air and give up.

Just, come on, Game of Thrones. Do better. You can do it.
