In 2012, everyone was talking about Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Now, only two years later, the twisted thriller is coming to the big screen. Will the film be as big of a hit as the book? From the looks of the first trailer, it just might be.
In just a minute and a half, the trailer details how Nick Dunne’s (Ben Affleck) life spirals out of control when his supposedly loving wife Amy (Rosamund Pike) goes missing on their fifth wedding anniversary. The accompanying song, Charles Aznavour’s “She” covered by the Psychodelic Furs, sounds downright eerie played over the trailer’s increasingly dark images.
Along with the trailer, a teaser poster was released. Taking the term “what lies beneath” literally, it features a boat floating on a seemingly idyllic lake underlined by a news ticker.
Acclaimed director David Fincher directed “Gone Girl” based on a script written by Gillian Flynn herself. She chose to write a new ending for the film, so even the millions of people who read the book will be surprised by some of the film’s twists and turns.
“Gone Girl” hits theaters October 3rd, 2014.
