Amanda Sun’s Ink was a pleasant surprise for me. Yes, the narrator is kind of stalkerish, but that didn’t annoy me too much. The mythology was new to me, and I adored the setting of contemporary Japan, and what daily life there entails. The inkwash cover and sketches inside really helped me envision the characters and objects. (One of the illustrations inside was re-used by the publisher, Harlequin Teen, for Dawn Metcalf’s Indelible cover.) I don’t remember anything from the Shadow novella, so hopefully this newer one will be more memorable. Book 2, Rain is currently scheduled for late June 2014.
